Jen's book is written primarily for new(ish) teachers, but 95% of what she writes can apply to veteran teachers as well. Her writing style makes you feel like you're sitting down discussing music education over coffee with her - it's approachable, laid-back, easy, and fun - all while being packed with great advice. This is a great book for new teachers trying to find their place in their new school: how to navigate the community of teachers, parents, administrators, etc. It is a wonderful tool for teachers starting in a new building, as well.Jen is a true example of how to advocate for your students, your program, and most importantly, yourSELF. I especially enjoyed the chapter on self-care, which reminds me that saying "no" isn't selfish at all. She has wonderful suggestions on how to communicate with parents, how to get your students more involved in the community, and how to avoid those negative teachers in the staff room.One of the best parts of this book is that there are spaces to take notes. Jen often asks the reader to write down goals, ideas, questions, and gives you the opportunity to do it in real time while reading, when it is fresh in your mind.I'd highly recommend this book for ANY teachers, new or seasoned. A quick read full of great ideas.
