"Running For Local Office For Dummies" by Dan Gookin is filled with practical advice. Not to sound cliche, but it really does take the mystery out of the process of entering a political race. It doesn't give shortcut advice. In fact, it covers the practicalities plus the inevitable hiccups (family member illness, inopportune foot in mouth, etc). I also like that it has the post-election behavior. There is the brief note on how to handle the win or the loss, but the last chapters go into how to behave in office once elected. I found that part fascinating. Not as someone who might want to run although that is good, but as a constituent and my expectations of elected officials.I think that is what I like about this book. It definitely is a worth a look for someone thinking of running for office to get an idea of what it takes; yet, it is also worth a look as a constituent to think about as I watch candidates run for office and then the post-election period. Definitely worth the read.
